*We are also looking for an individual who is at least 25 years old with no kids (not even part-time). Thanks for understanding.
Howdy, folks!
My good friend and I, who are in our early/mid 40s and young-at-heart, are looking for an individual third housemate (no couples, please) to share our cozy 3 bedroom in Happy Valley. We live by Joe’s Gardens, close to a few bus lines, Sehome Arboretum and Village, and are an 11 min bike ride from WWU’s Red Square and a 15 min bike ride from the downtown co-op.
Us and What we’re looking for: We are mindful and conscientious of others, try to keep communal areas clean, willing to collaborate and compromise to fix problems when they arise, honest and straightforward, try not to make assumptions, accepting and inclusive (with the exception of bigots and fascists), and strive to be consistent and compassionate communicators and are looking for the same. If this winds up being a good fit, we can guarantee a 6 month stay. It might be longer than that, but some changes might happen in the spring.
The House: We have a lovely garden and grass lawn, and we’re wanting to find someone who wants to help maintain (and ideally improve) both (there is a chance for reduced rent with a few hours a month in yard work beginning in March). There is some storage for things, but we’re looking for someone without a lot of need for extra space, although we’ll try to accommodate.
We do not currently have any pets, but there will be some dog visitors coming by and my housemate plans on getting a dog at some point. Unfortunately, additional cats and dogs are not allowed as they might inadvertently effecting her dog's training. Occasionally we like to listen to or play music rather loudly, but for the most part we are a quiet household. My friend is a musician, and she had a yard concert in the past that was wrapped up around 9pm and we are hoping to have more sporadically. During the fall and winter months my friend hosts a weekly craft night where there will be laughing at reasonable hours, but other than that it doesn’t get too rowdy.
The Room: Is 115 square feet (not including closet) $777/mo + utilities with a $700 damage deposit, and is right next to the kitchen, and while we try to be mindful of our noise, especially in the mornings, we do use a Vitamix sometimes daily. Also, the rooms & their windows are on the street side of the house and next to a road that can get busy in the mornings and evenings, but also goes long periods without anyone going by. There is a hedge buffer that helps with some of that sound. However, If you are especially sensitive to noise, this will likely not be a good fit.
If you are community-minded (as in you’re hoping to live in harmony with others, mindfully communicate your needs, sometimes converse with us, have house meetings on occasion to make sure everyone is getting their needs met) and are excited about the prospect of living with us, please send us all of the following:
1) What you’re looking for in a home, i.e. your needs, wants, and any accommodations
2) What excites you and how do you spend your time? Are you a musician, passionate about the work you do, live for underwater basket weaving?
3) Do you have reliable income and can pay rent on time?
4) Do you have the following references?
*2 from living situation(s), including 1 from a landlord/manager/house owner
*1 from work/internship/volunteer

5) Whether you have a pet or intend on getting a pet
6) Some habits and tendencies of yours like how early do you tend to wake up/how late do you usually go to bed? Do you spend a lot of time at home or mostly come to sleep, eat, and shower?
7) Why have some living situations worked for you in the past? Why have some not worked?
8) Approximate age and anything else you think might be relevant or any specific questions for us
