The crab moves with care, slowly and sideways, tracing the shoreline with memory in its shell. It wasn’t part of the original diet of the Lummi people, but became accepted through relationship, not entitlement. The fisherman doesn’t rush or force the harvest. He waits, taught by those who came before him. Their connection is not about capture it’s about reliance, balance, and ceremony.
This drum holds that story. One side carries the crab. The other, the fisherman. Smaller crabs and flowing waves mark the ceremonial path between them. It’s a shoreline in motion a witness to adaptability and sacred rhythm.
