Okay moto nerds, you ready for the weirdest, most wonderful bike you're going to see today? May I present to you my 2012 Ossa Explorer. You're basically looking at an Ossa TR280 with a secondary tank and a seat, total fuel capacity of around 2 gallons. It weighs around 180 pounds WITH FUEL, is a 280cc two stroke, fuel injected, and if you can possibly believe it, the thing is titled and plated for use on the street, though in general, I don't really recommend long transits.
This svelte little PNW trail nugget doesn't get to 180 pounds without some compromises of course, so get ready for a kick only machine with a trials moto gearbox, and limited suspension travel. If you can handle some of it's perceived shortfalls, then you are going to be met with a bike that rewards technical skills, pulls like a tractor from off of idle, and will basically go straight up anything you point it at while also not being a complete pig at slow speeds. For most of our local trails, it's hard for me to imagine a better machine for someone of my size.
It's has a compact form factor, which fits me well, but be prepared if you're 6'+ to be a bit cramped, I do have bar risers to go with for the new owner that help a bit.
This particular example is in excellent shape, with around 24 hours on the entire bike. Starts in 3-4 kicks from cold, and typically 1 kick when warmed up.
I have a small batch of parts to go with the bike, things like the headlight, tail/brake light and plate holder, a slightly incomplete lighting wiring harness, and the TrailTech dashboard that is the factory piece.
If this seems like your particular cup of tea, take some time and do some internet research and then ask me any questions you have. Ossa as a company is no longer around, but parts are still available (I am happy to share my contacts), but they're likely coming from Italy or Spain, so this isn't a bike for everyone. It's a very unique bike that really doesn't have many modern equivalents, let alone one that is plated, but in full disclosure, it is not without some unique challenges. This would make an excellent second bike next to your full size machine to work on your trials skills while also having the range for a pretty decent ride, and an actual place to park your behind.
Why am I selling this if it's such a great fit for our local trails? I have 2 young kids at home, and truly need a bike that I can ride and stuff in the garage for the next time I want to go out without much faffing around. I have limited riding time, and if something breaks, I'd really like to get it in a couple days instead of translating Italian. If I had the space for another moto in the garage, I'd keep this and use it as mentioned above. But I've got enough 2 wheel fun machines and really can't justify a 2nd moto. Fundamentally, this thing has been reliable, but all machines exist as wear items, so eventually, something is going to need some work.
I'm open to a sale or a trade and I have no real brand loyalty, but have a preference (obviously) for lighter machines, KTM200s pique my interest, but would take a hard look at something in the 250cc Yamaha/Honda lineup. Higher priority to plated machines. Will also entertain trades for higher end e-MTBs.
I have tons of information, documentation, software, etc. that I can share with the next owner. Happy to talk more in person. Standard moto sale rules apply, absolutely no test rides without cash in hand.
Note: mileage listed is not accurate, it's 24 hours as noted in the ad copy.
2nd Note: There are some side panels included that are not picture, they like to pop off at random times so I just ride without them.
