Lions Camp Horizon is hiring a Kitchen Manager! Lions Camp Horizon is a summer camp for teens and adults with disabilities operating during the summer months of July and August. We host week-long sessions and provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner for our campers and staff each day. Our campus is located in Blaine/Birch Bay, WA.
We are seeking a Kitchen Manager to be the head cook in our kitchen for staff orientation and all 4 weeks of camp. The kitchen manager will be involved in pre-camp planning, ordering food and supplies, prepping and cooking meals, cleaning kitchen appliances, and supervising kitchen assistants. The kitchen manager will work with another cook who will be sharing the prepping, cooking, and cleaning responsibilities and will have two kitchen assistants for entry-level support. The Kitchen Manager will also be responsible for managing a team of volunteers who will help prep and serve meals each day. These volunteers are different for each meal and may not have any kitchen experience.
Shifts can vary depending on the day, and the work week spans from Monday through Friday. This is a full-time seasonal position. Once hired, the Kitchen Manager will be involved in a series of meetings to discuss the menu, ordering, and planning for the camp season. Full-week work will start on June 29th. It is highly preferred that the Kitchen Manager be available for all major weeks of kitchen work. Below are the main dates of work for the Kitchen Manager position:
June 29 - July 3 (leadership and staff orientation)
July 6 - 10 (camp week 1)
July 13 - 17 (camp week 2)
July 20 - 24 (camp week 3)
August 3 - 7 (camp week 4)
We are looking for someone with experience managing a commercial kitchen, an upbeat and positive personality, and knowledge of special dietary restrictions such as gluten free or dairy free meals. Our campers have a wide range of abilities, so the Kitchen Manager must have patience and compassion when it comes to serving our campers with special needs.
Upon request, we are able to provide a lodging for any kitchen staff that needs it during camp sessions. RV parking may be available.
