Vintage Steamer Trunk. Early 1900s. From Belfast, Maine with 1918 Railway Express Labels
Early‑1900s flat‑top steamer trunk with solid wood construction, metal hardware, and reinforced corners. All three front latches are intact and functional. The trunk opens and closes properly and is structurally sound.
The two sides are stenciled “E.M. Barker Belfast ME”, an original period marking used for rail and steamship travel.
Two original American Railway Express waybills were found on the bottom of the trunk, including a C.O.D. label dated December 23, 1918 from Boston, Massachusetts. These labels confirm the trunk was in active use during the early U.S. rail‑shipping era.
Interior is unfinished wood with typical age‑related wear. No paper lining. No major repairs.
