A brief history of the VW Trek.
In 1996, Volkswagen and Trek Bicycle partnered to offer a limited-edition Trek 800 series mountain bike with the purchase of a Volkswagen Jetta "Trek" edition car. This collaboration marked the first time a car manufacturer and a bicycle company partnered in such a way. The Jetta Trek edition included a roof rack to carry the special-edition mountain bike. This promotion ran for a few years, extending beyond the initial 1996 launch.
