Local Artist, Michael Jacobsen Stone Sculpture, “Phoenix Rising”
Quote from Michael Jacobsen: “I have it listed as "Phoenix Rising" because of the name of the show it was in soon after the invasion of Iraq... which I was strongly protesting in the Allied Arts gallery exhibit I did in 2003… entitled "Phoenix Rising".
This sculpture is carved from ruby zoisite (upper piece) and olivine (lower piece).
Ruby zoisite is ruby crystals (ruby red) in zoisite matrix (green). The ruby crystals fluoresce bright hot pink under an ultra-violet light (see photo).
The base is solid olivine (dunite from Whatcom county). The bottom is felted.
The top piece is removable from base (for easy and safe transport).
Sculpture is perfect condition.
Measures ~ 15 inches tall. I will post exact measurements in the next day or so.
