Every world map on wood is handcrafted and made to order.
All the wood is soured locally from a sawmill nearby in the Laurentians area of Quebec Canada.
The type of wood is mostly white, yellow, or red pine, eastern white cedar, or spruce.
Once I pick up all the wood, everything is brought to my workshop for prepping and drying.
Once dried out, I start by cutting each plank to the appropriate lengths. I then cut each plank to the appropriate widths on the table saw.
After each wood plank is correctly cut, I run everything through an electric wood planer to bring down to the appropriate thickness(usually about 5/8's of an inch.
Each wood plank is stained with a non toxic-water based stain:
Each wood plank is then assembled and placed accordingly in the same pattern as seen in the pictures. Assembly includes 3 strips of pine wood on the back of the wood map, which is glued with carpenter's glue, and fastened with wood screws.
Using this method for over six years, I've realized this is the most efficient, and will provide strength for decades, just like any other piece of furniture.
I also screw in and attatch a hard metal wiring, so each world map on wood comes ready to hang.
The paint I use to paint the world map is the best quality. It's a mix of pearl white paint and primer. always apply two coats, sometimes three if needed. The paint does not peel off or fade with time.
Once the world map on wood is complete, I brand the back of of it with my forged branding iron with the following:
