For sale is a pair of vintage Chinese soapstone carving of a "Foo Dog" on a pedestal, in perfect condition - no chips, cracks or repairs. Asking $349 or best offer.
This rare hand-made soapstone carving is 6.5" tall x 3" wide x 2" deep (pedestal). One is slightly shorter than the other. There's also some slight variation in the stone colors patterns; i.e. they're not exactly identical (because they're hand-made)
I brought these souvenirs back from my visit to Xiamen, Fujian Province, China in the mid 1980's. The words on the (base) pedestal refers to Jimei Ao Garden, in Jimei, Xiamen. That means it's unlikely you'll ever find another item like this. "Foo Dogs" are mythical "guardian lion dogs".
Very nice quality with stunning details, including the hollowed out carved "ball". The head is mounted on a "bobble" spring.
Please message me with any questions or request for more pictures. Just PM me to schedule pick up from my place in Bellingham.
Or, you can ask for it to be shipped to you, e.g. via USPS, UPS, Fedex, etc. at your expense, preferably using your account for your preferred carrier(s) for packing and shipping.
I also have several other vintage soapstone art carvings purchased about the same time when I visited China in the early/mid 1980's. See sample pictures included in this posting and let me know which item you may be interested in.
