So if fed often in a tub or extra tank cleanings could occur even less frequently. Sliders can live to be very old, these guy are about 2 yrs old, so they have a lot of life left. They are relatively healthy, but I would love to see them in a home that can afford to take them to see a vet, as they have never been. I am working to rid them of some dicolored shells, which could be some mild shell rot.

However, he dislikes being alone so would need a lot of attention. He can handle being the only dog in your life but would need a fenced yard to keep him content during the day while you're gone. All ferrets can be on a trial basis. If it is outside of your box on ones issues there are other ferrets. Some ferrets work with only certain people at times, as in some people can only work with some ferrets. We look to put ferrets in the right homes, not just any home.

Ferrets City Shelter also has many accessories such as used cages of all sizes, gently used bedding, new bedding, food bowls, water bottles/dishes, toys and more. All proceeds go to helping the fuzzies in medical care, surgeries, food and more. Also keeping the shelter running and not to mention open for ferrets in need. She is a female pit bull, she has been very well trained, and loves kids, cats and other dogs as well! She knows all the tricks in the book, and is the most loyal dog i have ever met. She is 5yrs old(although she acts like she's still a puppy), and has been fixed, and needs her shots re-done in february. She is an indoor dog, but she loves the outdoors, car rides, swimming, hiking etc. She has alot of supplies as well...a very heavy duty crate, leashes and collar...etc. We are asking a $50 re-homing fee for her.

We have spent alot of time, effort and money on her, and she deserves the best home possible!

We call the dog Bear, since she was down to bare bones, and she didn't get eaten by one! Before the trip to the vet, we were able to get most of the burrs and matted fur out, and shampooed and conditioned her with a tea tree oil shampoo, and gave her flea treatment, so she is now shiny and cleaner.
The vet bill so far is 71.11, for a double ear infection, worms, and is on medication. Also receiving treatment, slowly feeding her special food with potassium and vitamins, higher meat protein/fat content for she was very skinny/emaciated. We are feeding her small portions 4'xs a day to avoid the re feeding syndrome for a week, and then will feed her our high quality dog food for seniors I got at Walkers pet food store in Bellingham. Bear will need continued treatment, and a vet check in 3 weeks. Shes an older dog, so I knew she wouldn't have to much luck at the humane society, so I will continue to care for her, for she deserves much better care, love and attention. I am in the process of contacting dog rescues, and no kill shelters for assistance on what is best for bear, but still waiting to hear from her owners. Our vet said she may have been used as a breeder, and turned loose when they didn't think she was useful!!! She is not spayed at 10 years old! She has a swollen vulva that could be another medical condition such as vaginal prolapse, diabetes, thyroid, or reproductive disease so I will continue to monitor for any other symptoms. Her teeth are in bad condition, but she will let me brush her teeth. She seems to love any attention, but we take it slow, and allow her to rest for a full recovery. She is still very timid, and stays in her kennel with the door open for when she walk to come out. Our family veterinarian said it could take up to a week for a bowel movement, but she has urinated, so she is getting rehydrate. She could have bladder problems, since she has had a few accidents, so we are watching her closely. Or it could be she has been outside for to long, and just needs to be trained to be housebroken. She doesn't know any tricks, or commands, but we are working on the sit command slowly. Sad story, but one that will have a happy ending, we will see to it! We hope to locate the owner, but my Vet scanned her entire body, and there was no microchip, or no way to Id her. We did put up flyers in the area, and on the way to our vet in Bellingham. We also placed an ad in the Bellingham Herald, it should start * Tuesday, and run for three days. Sam Aldrich at the Herald in charge of advertising, said he read a story about this. There is a higher rate, due to the economy, of people abandoning their animals. Often in the summer heat, and cold of winter, dogs are often kept outside without food, water, or adequate shelter. Or left outside to roam freely depending on the kindness of others to feed and care for them. He transferred me to Mandy, where she let me place an ad free of charge. Thank you to the Herald, and to all the replies from warmhearted, concerned people here at Craigs list.

On December 10, approximately 2:pm we found a small dog while walking our dogs in the Mountain Trails. It took us about an hour to capture this dog, it was scared, and shivering from fear, cold or a combination of both. Upon picking up the animal, it appeared to be in a markedly thin and undernourished condition with no body fat. The significant loss of body fat and muscle mass is termed emaciation. This dog also showed visible symptoms of severe dehydration. I carried the dog home, and could see and feel it's ribs, hip bones, and spine! This dog has no weight to it, and felt like I was carrying a feather!

It took us an hour to walk home, since we hike in the mountain trails with our dogs. I gave the dog water, and it drank immediately. We then fed the dog our high quality dog food. It was Ravenous, but we are feeding it small amounts 4x's a day to avoid the Refeeding Syndrome at first. We allowed it to rest in a kennel, with blankets and placed it near the heater. After an hour, we took it out and combed and cut away all the matted fur and burrs. We then gave it a warm bath to remove the odor, and to bring up it's body temperature because it was still very cold and shivering.

We are taking it to the vet this morning for documentation purposes, since animal abuse, neglect and or abandonment is highly suspect, and to examine the inner thighs, for tattoos and/or microchips. Our vet will do a health check to determine age, and if any kidney or other organ damage was been done due to it's poor condition.

With the extreme low temperatures, ( arctic weather pattern below freezing, with wind chill factor lowest temp reading here was -12 ) it is unlikely this dog would have been able to survive outside for very long in this condition. If this is your animal, email to describe it, and how long it went missing! We seriously want to know how this dog got so emaciated/dehydrated, and if it has been abused, neglected before it went missing in this weather! I will give you two weeks to claim your dog. I will post ads, place flyers, and do what I can to locate this owner. However after the time elapses, I will take it to a no kill shelter, or look for someone to adopt this animal, or keep it myself, depending on how it gets along with my animals and children. I will also get it a temperament test, before I place it. In the meantime, your dog is getting the best of care in it's new foster home.

We do tend to get many abandoned animals out here in the country. However if you simply can not care for, or feed your animals, Please stop dropping them off in rural areas, or leaving them outside in extreme temperatures with no food, water, or shelter, or to roam freely to fend for themselves! I don't know why people think taking Fido out to the country is better for them then a shelter. They will not be happier frolicking in the country side! They will get hit by cars, or eaten by predators. They have been domesticated, and can not hunt for food, and will die of starvation an agonizing death!

Take them to a no kill animal shelter, or rehome them! If you need help feeding your animals, ask the Humane society for dog and cat food donations! You will need to drive to Bellingham, to get the food however. I have been asking the Humane society to please bring more food for animals to be distributed at our local food bank. I have even offered to pick up the animal food and take it to the local food bank, but my efforts have been futile. There is a great need for service in this area, for animals, and people, and due to the economy it is getting worst! Well at least we got the spay station to come out here now!

Believe me, we are not just dumping our dog because we are moving...we love her and will miss her sooo much, but it will be the best thing for her. She deserves more attention and room to run. We are asking that her new family owns their own home, or can provide proof from their landlord because she is a pit bull, and we know the laws and stipulations that certain areas have on them, and have been through alot trying to rent a place with her. She would be a good family dog or one person's dog as long as she gets enough attention...otherwise she gets depressed and lonely. She comes with a nice heavy duty crate, which cost over $100 and a $40 retractable leash meant for 110lb dogs, food dishes, a few chuck-it tennis ball throwers, a halti head harness for walks...if she was walked everyday for a period of time, she wouldn't need it, but she has lacked walks lately...we have a back yard devoted to her...but she LOVES them! She loves all outdoor activities: hiking, swimming, camping, playing in the snow, etc.
