After 13 years of playing music in Bellingham, I have decided to remedy the lack of safe, secure, and private practice spaces for serious bands. We are in the process of opening Bellingham's first "jam box". We will be renting rooms by the month, as well as hourly, with reasonable (late!!) hours of operation. Rates will be determined by room size, and some other factors but we are hoping to be able to offer rooms for $250-$600 per month. There is no doubt that a waiting list will form so if this sounds like something you need, drop us a line, and we can go from there.

Skylark's has started a new Vocal Showcase on the 3rd Thursday of every month. This will be like an open mic, but for singers who do not have back-up musicians. Walt Burkett is our host for the event and he performs acoustic guitar as back-up for the singers. I have had many attempts at learning many different instruments and have never been able to get reading music.
I would love to learn to play music, perhaps no one elses' music but what I can create.
I just know that I am interested to learn something from someone who isn't hell bent on teaching me to read music or play other peoples music with their idea of how it should sound.

I'm getting a group together to play original songs that I've written and I want a string quartet. I already have some songs written and more are on the way. Most of the string parts, but definitely not all will be pre-written by me. There will be flexibility on this and could change but for now it's how it'll be.

I envision the strings carrying most or a lot of the song with different parts.

These songs are more a modern style. They range from dark and driving to airy and pretty. Currently I'm writing songs inspired by night time.

We've been playing our music around here for a little more than a year. We play loud, funky, rock. Sometimes scary, sometimes spa(i)cey, with a little hip-hop and reggae thrown in. We are not trying to make it to the top, we just want to play music and help everyone have nicetimes.

We are a rapper, singer, guitarist, drummer, and a former bassist who now lives far away.

We seek very Funk-minded personalities who know their instrument (bass or keys), and can play busily and loud, with a lot of melody and good sense of the Jam. You need to be open-minded about all sorts of songwriting processes, and every possible musical influence.

We're trying to move in more extreme directions, especially in terms of songwriting which should be fun! We are all very friendly, intelligent people who try to practice at least once a week, and we fucking love doing fucking shows.

Hello all. My name is Jake, I'm 19 and i'm a student at western. I am looking for musical collaborators. I've played guitar for awhile, and can bumble around with some other instruments. I compose songs on my computer with the program guitar pro, which basically puts them in MIDI format. It's great for dropping ideas and composing, but electric music that sounds like it's being made with cellphone tones is only so satisfying. My arrangements generally contain complete dual guitar, bass, and drum parts. I didn't think I would ever post on here, but have been frustrated with finding the right people to work with. I do not want to play "rock," anything jazz or funk or fusion influenced and have no interest emulating classic rock or classic metal. If that's what you want to play then you are in luck because it seems like that is what every other musician post calls for. I would like to get together with some people that want to be creative with music in a modern way. We can learn the songs i've written, make some new stuff, play what you've written, whatever as long as it's good and fresh. I would like to create "heavy" music but not to be limited to such... I certainly want to take influence from my extreme listening bouts, but i don't want a straight up black metal or porngrind outfit. Here are some of my more prominent influences:

Wolves in the throne room, portugal. the man, sigur ros, dillinger escape plan, neutral milk hotel, thrice, sounds of animals fighting, rx bandits, converge, agoraphobic nosebleed, genghis tron, caspian, radiohead, mars volta, fear before the march of flames.

Hey our band needs a bass player.

We are looking to make it to the top, so you must be serious about helping us make it to the top.

You must be willing to practice two times a week, and be reliable.

You must be able to play your instrument, and follow directions from us.

You must be 21-27 and have a cool look.

You must have good equipment like Fender and Ampeg. One guy we auditioned played a Squier, that will not cut it with us. We are pros and use pro gear. He tried to tell us that new Squiers are good (yeah right, sure). One guy even had the audacity to show up with a Fender copy that had no name on it, and played it through some italian named amp we had never heard of. He said the bass was a Nash or something and that it was made here in Washington. Needless to say, we showed him the door.

Our main influences are R.H.C.P., Sublime, The Mars Volta, and Nirvana. We are true artists, and you must also have artistic influences.

My name is Jeff Gray. I am a upright/electric bass player with over 25 years experience playing, and 15 years teaching music. I graduated from the Western Washington music program in 1997 and am comfortable playing numerous styles of music. I mostly work out of Seattle, but live in Bellingham and would like to have some local groups that I can play with as well. Lately I am interested in solidifying a gypsy jazz group that I have been involved in for the last 4 years, or so. For this group, I am seeking a hot picking gypsy guitarist. Do you wanna play bass? Do you wanna play in a band? How 'bout a rock band? How 'bout a hard-rock band? Well, I'm looking for a bass player that does want to be in a hard-rock band! Me and my guitar player are looking for a dedicated bass man (or woman) who is reliable, has a professional disposition, pro gear, and reliable transportation. We need someone who can practice on their own time as well as with us since our schedules are all over the place. I can provide material to learn the songs, and we can help teach you during rehearsals.
